In June of 2010, Luke was taken into the hospital to be “looked” at for some minor discomfort. That day turned Luke’s life upside down. He went from an active 4H member; on-hands farm boy; avid hunter and horseman; to 6 months of being treated in the hospital in Minneapolis.
Luke was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). In Dec 2010, Luke was released from the hospital and sent home; only to have AML rear its unforgiving head later that summer for round two. Luke’s only hope was for a bone marrow transplant and his brother Adam was a perfect match. Luke spent many more months enduring chemo, radiation and transplant recovery.
Western Wishes is thrilled to report that Luke’s procedure was a complete success and he is now in remission, at 15 yrs old. Luke’s faith and courage saw him through this and Luke is now enjoying life riding his new horse, hunting, fishing and workin’ the farm.
In April 2011, Luke’s Western Wish was granted: A roping horse with all the tack to go with him.
One way that anyone can meet and help kids just like Luke is by joining Western Wishes in celebration of “Leaving A Legacy Of Goodwill The Cowboy Way” on July 21, 2012 in Cheyenne, WY at a cast and character reunion of the movie “8 Seconds“.
This will be a great way to have fun, while raising funds for and awareness of the Western Wishes Program! For more information, click here.
